Wastewater Treatment Using Oxidation Ditch Technology

• The oxidation ditch treats seafood processing wastewater through extended aeration. Activated sludge is suspended in wastewater and circulates continuously in the ditch.

• Sludge concentration in the oxidation ditch is maintained between 4,000 - 6,000 mg/L.

• Dissolved oxygen (DO) is supplied by surface aeration equipment. DO levels in the aerobic zone exceed 2.2 mg/L, supporting the aerobic oxidation of organic matter and nitrification.

• In the anoxic zone, DO levels are lower (0.5 - 0.8 mg/L), enabling the denitrification process.

• Wastewater circulates around the tank following the rotation of surface aerators, eliminating the need for sludge recirculation from aerobic to anoxic zones while ensuring effective nitrogen removal.

• After processing in the oxidation ditch, the mixture of sludge (microorganisms) and wastewater is transferred to a sedimentation tank. In the sedimentation tank, sludge is separated from the wastewater using gravity within 4–6 hours.
