What is Hydrochloric Acid?

Hydrochloric Acid, also called HCl, is a very common chemical widely applied in many fields. It exists as a pale yellow liquid with a sharp, toxic odor, highly corrosive, and considered a strong mineral acid.

Applications of Hydrochloric Acid

• Salt purification and pH control: Used to clean table salt and adjust acidity in solutions, ensuring proper pH levels in pharmaceuticals, water treatment, and food production.

• Detergent industry: Its corrosive properties help remove stains and rust from metals such as copper and iron. It is also used for cleaning tiles in bathrooms and kitchens, as well as a disinfectant. In textiles, it is applied for bleaching fabrics and leather processing.

• Pharmaceuticals and organic compounds: Plays an important role in producing organic compounds such as vinyl chloride and dichloromethane, crucial in PVC production. It also contributes to the synthesis of compounds like ascorbic acid and other pharmaceutical products.

• Wastewater treatment: Essential in producing chemicals such as polyaluminium chloride (PAC), ferric acid, and aluminum carbohydrate. It is also used in ion-exchange resin regeneration and removing cations from resins.
