1. What’s a Magnetic Drum?

Magnetic drum (also known as a magnetic separator drum) is an iron removal device that uses permanent magnets installed inside a rotating stainless steel drum.

2. Operating Principle

These drum magnets continuously and fully automatically separate ferrous particles, such as iron and steel. A drum magnet is a stationary (180°) magnet segment, with a stainless steel rotating drum. The magnet attracts magnetic particles that are in the product. The drum carries the attached particles with it to the bottom of the drum. There the particles off and can be collected and carried away. For strongly magnetic particles, carriers are placed on the drum to ‘push’ the separated ferrous particles out of the magnetic field for further discharging. 

The advantage of a drum magnet is that it is a continuous cleaning/separating system, in which it is not necessary to stop the product flow to remove the trapped magnetic particles. 

3. Applications 

Due to the continuous cleaning, the magnetic drum separator is very suitable for product flows with heavy magnetic particle contamination. You can use them in free-fall pipelines, or after a vibrating chute in belt conveyors. These drum magnets are industrially finished. They remove 1-5 mm ferrous impurities from all kinds of non-food powders and granulates.
