3. Properties

Physical Properties

- Appearance: Blue, odorless crystals.

- At 650°C, copper(II) sulfate decomposes into copper(II) oxide (CuO) and sulfur trioxide (SO3).

- The blue color is due to hydration water. When heated, the crystals lose water and turn grayish-white.

Chemical Properties

- Reaction with hydrochloric acid: Produces a green solution due to the formation of tetrachlorocuprate(II).
