CORN SILAGE
In winter, the weather is cold, dry, and plants are poorly developed, resulting in low productivity, reducing food sources for livestock. Not providing enough food will affect the health and productivity of livestock. Therefore, preserving and storing raw food and utilizing agricultural by-products by silage method is very necessary.
Silage is a type of fodder made from green foliage crops which have been preserved by fermentation to the point of acidification. It can be fed to cattle, sheep, and other such ruminants. The most commonly used ingredient of this method is corn silage.
Advantages of corn silage:
- Green raw materials retain their nutritional content.
- Microorganisms decompose sugar to diversify nutrients.
- Cattle easily digest.
- Does not produce toxins or mold during storage.
- Easy to implement and apply in all livestock models.
Ingredients of corn silage:
- Corn stalks after harvesting green corn (ripe corn): 93 - 94%.
- Tapioca starch, rice bran or corn flour: 2 - 5%
- Molasses: 1 – 3%
- Table salt: 0.5 – 1%
- Microbial products (if any): 0.1 - 0.2%
